Duchy Marathon and Duchy 20

   Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Icy blue skies and a biting easterly wind couldn't determine 10 intrepid Harriers from a day out by the seaside. The Duchy marathon is the third race on the Cornish Grand prix and a notoriously good one to pick up points on. Despite traffic jams, roadworks and unruly locals it was a tremendous race for everyone taking part. First home for the Harriers in the marathon was Diane Roy, in hugely impressive 3.20.18 improving on her time of last year by 2 minutes and finishing 2nd lady overall and first in her age category. Second home was Ian Littlewood in his first ever marathon, an excellent 3.35.30. Third home also comfortably managing to break the 4 hr mark was Christina Steed in 3.55.09. For the Duchy 20 Chris Ullman led the way for the Harriers with a not-bad-at-all 2.29.18, his first race ever over that distance. Second home was Terry Leech in 2.33.06 struggling with a sore knee. Third home was Ray Goodright improving on his previous Duchy 20 by a massive 7 minutes in 3.01.13. Not far behind was Tessa Mason in 3.05.07, and a small cluster of Harriers 5 minutes further back were Karen Mahoney in 3.12.18, Che A'Lee in 3.12.51 and Andrew Sims who was helping pace them in 3.12.52.

Plymouth Hoe 10

   Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Plymouth's annual 10 mile jaunt seems somehow immune to February's worst weather and 2010 was no different in what was undoubtedly running vest and shorts weather. Only 8 Harriers made the short trip to the starting line, but this was more than compensated by many familiar facings marshalling it en route and offering support as spectators. First back was Sharon Daw in a very impressive 1.08.28 and she was also first in the female 40-44 category. Second home was Chris Ullman in 1.09.35 a distance pb for him. Andrew Sims and Alan Green (on his racing comeback) were separated by a mere 15 seconds, in 1.19.30 and 1.19.45. Mike Palmer finished in his "penultimate race" in 1.22.38, and says he will unfortunately be hanging up his shoes after the forthcoming kilomathon in Nottingham due to injury concerns. Victoria Rogers managed a huge 6 minute pb with 1.26.38. Rita Hoile was second in the female 55+ age category with 1.26.59 and Karen Sims set a new pb in 1.29.21.
