There is to be a ‘Running Basics’ workshop delivered by Simon Grose of Hayle Runners at the Carn Brea track on Thursday 26th January, 2012.
This workshop will be a great start to the New Year for many of our up-and-coming endurance coaches and I’m sure will also be very useful to established endurance coaches also.
The Multi Terrain Grand Prix 2012
Friday, December 09, 2011
There is now a second grand prix taking place in Cornwall. Spanning 10 races, starting with our very own Five Tors, this Grand Prix fills in those dates left vacant between the Cornish Grand Prix races. Operating to the same principles as the Cornish Grand Prix with 300 points for a win, and descending one at a time, this grand prix is open to runners from ANY club, not just Cornish ones. You need to run a minimum of 6 races to qualify. More details can be here.

Mob Match report - Two first places
Tuesday, November 29, 2011
The traditional curtain closer for the Grand Prix season is the Falmouth mob match, an undulating five miler from Gyllingvase beach up to, around Pendennis castle and back. There are no individual prizes, the simple aim is get a large team back first. This year the race was broken into three divisions, large clubs (180 members +) medium clubs (50-179) and small ones. The top clubs needed 18 members for the men and 12 for the ladies, the medium sized ones needing 12 for the men and 8 for the ladies. East Cornwall Harriers qualify as a medium sized club.
On a perfect cool, breezy and sunny day 35 Harriers made the journey. It's not possible to report on everyone, but it's worth mentioning that Dan Nash came 2nd overall in 26.49 and was leading the race with 400m to go, another excellent achievement. Both the men's and ladies team won their divisions, the men managing to get 12 runners home in under 33.20, an exceptional performance. The runners were: Dan Nash (26.49), James Stevens (28.58), Mark Budge (29.42), Steven Sims (30.31), Liam Smith (31.11), Liam Gallantry (31.21), Jordan May (31.47), Dan Conway (31.47), Chris Ullman (32.41), Mark Andrews (32.47), Paul Arrowsmith (33.13), Dan Solly (33.18). The winning ladies team were Revis Crowle (32.52), Diane Roy (35.13), Claire Davidson (37.10), Lydia Collins (37.32), Karen Mahoney (38.29), Tessa Mason (38.30), Jess Behennah (39.32) and Amanda Erith (41.47).
Plenty of other Harriers ran the course ensuring we actually had a men's "A" team and a "B" team in the final results, the B team coming 4th overall. The other finishers were: Andrew Berry (35.08), Alan Green (36.03), Simon Webber (36.15), Andrew Sims (36.49), Richard Daulton (36.54), Brian Elliott (36.55), Ian Ringer (37.54), Ray Goodright (38.16), Glenn Wood (39.27), Pete Nash (39.55), Rupert Warwich (40.16), Alan Smith (41.19), Karen Sims (43.50), Abigail Berry (44.33), Sue Craze (52.39)
Cornish Marathon report
Tuesday, November 22, 2011

Almost perfect weather greeted the record 254 runners who started the difficult and testing route. Fifteen Harriers meant sure ECH were very well represented in the results, and a huge and very enthusiastic marshalling team meant that the runners were never alone on the course. First back was Bob Brown in 12th place overall in a very impressive 3.05.07. Bob also managed to grab 3rd in the male vet 40-44 category. Next back and not seen in ECH colours for a while, but making a habit of turning up for the longest and most trying races was Chris Gilbert in 27th in an excellent 3.15.39.
Rapidly becoming an annual occurrence is the marathon battle between Mark Andrews and Diane Roy, last year Mark fell at the 25 mile marker and left Di to power past him, but this year he stayed ahead til the end, finishing in an excellent 3.25.09 and grabbing third in the male vet 50-54 category. Di was as usual bringing home plenty of silverware, coming 2nd lady overall and 1st the female vet 45-59 category. Tracey Brown finally managed to crack the 3.30 barrier in a tremendous 3.28.47 and was rewarded with 3rd lady overall and first in the female under 35 category. Chris Ullman however didn't manage to crack the 3.30 barrier on this course yet again, fading at mile 19 after a promising start, heard muttering "and I would have done it if it hadn't have been for those pesky hills", although he did sneak a course pb by 22 seconds.
Sharon Daw was next back in 3.38.26 and despite missing narrowly out on an age category prize, ensured the ladies team came a brilliant first overall. Oli Jones starts his marathon training early with a "jog round" the Cornish, finishing in time most would have been proud to run flat out in 3.40.54. Karen Mahoney had an exceptional race recording a pb and coming second in the female vet 40-44 category with 3.47.48. Jordan May completed his second ever marathon, just over a month after his first, this time cracking the 4 hour barrier in 3.55.39 and was followed by marathon veteran Andrew Bickle in 3.55.48. Andrew Berry on his first Cornish marathon recorded a very respectable 4.04.03. Andrew Sims decided the night before the marathon to "give it a go" and got around in 4.33.57. Alan Smith had only run 7 races in the grand prix this year and to get on the podium for the male vet 70-74 meant having to complete this race. He did so in 5.00.45 and managed to grab first in the male vet 70-74 category and get 3rd in the grand prix male 70-74 category.
