EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 20 JANUARY 2019

Another weekend and another Marathon Double for Sharon Daw. Saturday 19 January Ranscombe Winter Challenge at Ranscombe Country Park in 5.37.17 – followed by the Rachels Ranscombe Ramble on Sunday 20 January 2019 in 5.41.52.

Sharon now has 300 Marathons in her sight having achieved 1000 miles of Marathon Running Miles with the Saxons Normans & Vikings Race Organisers.

Sunday 20th January saw the first race of the 2019 Cornwall Road Running Grand Prix – the usually aptly named Storm Force 10 – hosted by Carn Runners. This year the weather was a bit kinder with sunshine & showers around the course.

The race starts and finishes at Camborne Community College and follows an undulating route through the country lanes with steeper hills at miles 4 and 8. This is a very popular race being the fisrt of the Grand Prix Road Running series. 554 runners finished the race. Amazingly again this year 18 runners finished in under 60 mins – which is truly remarkable and shows the strength of running in Cornwall. Tony Brewer of the Mile High club won the race in 52m 55secs. Heidi Tregenza of Cornwall Athletic Club was first female in 1.00.16 , only 17 secs from beating the hour. Brilliant performances from both.

Fourteen Harriers made the long journey to Camborne.

First home was Ben Harding in 1.06.08 followed by Chris Ullman in 1.08.51. Simon Webber was third Harrier in 1.11.05 and 4th in his MV 60 age group. Revis Crowle was 1st Lady Harrier in 1.12.13 and 1st in her FV 55 Age Category. Joe Kearns 1.13.5 was next home just ahead of Arron Crowle 1.13.55. Clive Shute made a huge effort to come home in 1.14.22. Club Chairman Rob Pick posted a good time of 1.16.43 finishing just ahead of Marcus Wills 1.17.34. Glenn Wood was pleased with his 1.23.27 run. Michael Palmer had a brilliant race to finish in 1.28.08 and 3rd in his MV 70 age category. Mark Andrews 1.28.37 was next home just ahead of Lucy Oldham 1.30.04. Holly Garbett 1.46.46 completed the field for the Harriers.

Some very fine times posted for the first race of the season
