ECH Race Report 24 February 2019.

Sunday 24th February 2019 was the Looe 10 miler Round 3 of the Cornwall Road Running Grand Prix, hosted by Looe Pioneers.

This gruelling 10 mile race has established itself as one of the toughest 10 mile road races in Cornwall and this year rightly attracted a full field with 517 runners completing the race.

As usual the race was brilliantly organised by the Pioneers and well supported by all the Cornish Running clubs and some of our neighbours from Devon.

In brilliant sunshine the runners set off from the Millpool Centre and headed along the quay before heading up hill and across the downs before tackling the very steep descent into Talland Bay. After running around Talland Bay the runners have to tackle a steep ascent heading inland towards Polperro before looping back towards Looe – passing Sclerder Abbey at 6 miles before descending back to Talland Bay and then tackling the very steep ascent pass Talland Church and again uphill to the downs before the welcome downhill to the quay and the final sprint back to the finish at the Millpool.

The race was won by Tony Brewer from the Mile High Club in a brilliant time of 1h 1m 13 secs. Claudia Serien from Plymouth HRC was first female in 1h 16m.

Matt Davies was 1st Harrier home in 1.18.01 with Marc Doyle only 24 seconds behind with a great run. Simon Webber had ana excellent race finishing in 1.19.25 and 2nd in his MV 60 age category. Caden Crowle in 1.20.41 was 4th Harrier just heading off Shane Caughey 1.21. 20. Joe Kearns with another very solid run came home in 1.23.01 to be 4th in his MV55 age category.

Kaye Patterson 1.25.36 in her first competitive race since becoming a mother only 3 months ago achieved 3rd in her F 17 -35 age group- a brilliant come back and 1st lady Harrier. Amy Williams as usual had a very strong run finishing in 1.28.17 just ahead of Hayley Stacey 1.30.02 who was 5th in her FV40 age group. Chris Nottle 1.30.45 just pipped Jon Hoare 1.31.00 by 15 seconds with Dani Brace 1.35.15 next. Craig Jamieson 1.36.04 was next edging Glenn Wood 1.36.52 by 48 seconds. Ross Temby 1.39.20 managed to stay just ahead of the ever resolute Rachael Young 1.39.53 by 33 seconds. Michael Palmer 1.42.27 had a very good run in his ultra competitive MV 70 age category.

Lucy Oldham 1.44.12 headed a following trio of lady Harriers with Liz Egginton 1.45.29, Emma Dales 1.46.16 and Tracey Buckley 1.51.05.

Ian Grundy 1.57.51 Sarah Steed 1.57.51 and Jeanette Turpin 157.52 crossed the line together

Sandra Haynes 2.06.22 completed the team of 25 Harriers.

A very good days running in a well organised and supported race. Thanks to Looe Pioneers and all their marshalls and helpers at the water stations.
