EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 23 OCTOBER 2016.
A varied weekend of racing for the Harriers. With members travelling far & wide to compete in the black & gold vests of East Cornwall Harriers.
Four Harriers made the shortest trip to Tavistock to run in the Tavy 7 on the fringes of Dartmoor. This 7 mile road race is gaining popularity and this year was fully subscribed with a strong contingent of Plymouth Runners. The day was cold with a difficult wind which made conditions testing. Chris Ullman was first Harrier home in 50.10. Claire Davidson 57.16 just edged out Meeta Nicholls 57.28 to be 2nd & 3rd Harriers. Dave Lean 1.00.04 just by the narrowest margin failed to beat 1 hour in a very good run.
Much Further South in the great South Run Craig Vaughnley recorded 1.30.41 in this 10 mile challenge in a very large field and recovering from a back injury was very plaesed with his time.
Sharon Daw made the long trip to Minehead to run the Exmoor Stagger a very testing 15.1 mile off road challenge which as usual involved a lot of up hill running in windy conditions. Sharon completed the race in 2.51.21.
Diane Roy headed off to Abingdon to compete in the Abingdon Marathon along with Pat Munn from Mud Crew. This turned out to be a very fast competitive race with many of the best runners from our Armed Forces competing. Diane completed the Marathon in a very speedy 3.19.04 just heading off Pat, 2.51.21, by two and half minutes. Excellent performance from both runners.
Three Harriers went to Lydney in Gloucester to compete in the quaintly named Yorkley Gallop. As well as On road & off road running – Cani Cross – running off road with dogs is becoming very popular and East Cornwall Harriers have a few very talented specialists who also have talented dogs. In the 6 mile rcae Ian Littlewood completed the race in a fast 42.01 & was first male and 1st in age Group. Ben Harding competing in Cani Cross for the 1st time finished in 50.50 and 6th overall – a very good debut run. Louise Littlewood ran the 6 mile Gallop in 51.11 and was 4th in her age group. For those interested in CaniCross racing you can contact Ian & Louise Littlewood who will happily provide information on training & events.
